Oral history.; Interview conducted with Douglas Anderson on January 15, 2009. Douglas L. Anderson was born in 1939 in Jackson, Mississippi. He was the eleventh of twelve children. He attended Mary Jones grammar school, Walton Elementary, and Lanier High School. Anderson went on to attend Dillard University, receiving a bachelor's degree in mathematics. He then attended the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a master's degree. After college, Anderson worked as an educator in Meridian Public Schools, Jackson Public Schools, and was an assistant professor of mathematics at Jackson State University. He served in the Mississippi House of Representatives, the Mississippi State Senate, and on the Hinds County Board of Supervisors.
