A giant-sized hand labeled, "Proposed Adam Clayton Powell censure" is grasping the dome of the Capitol and is shaking it. Behind the man, Runtz's signature cat puts its paw to its mouth and looks amused. The cartoon caption reads, "Who knows what may shake loose?"

From the left of the cartoon, someone shouts "Trying to subvert us liberals!" From the right of the cartoon, someone shouts,"We right-wingers didn't get our share!" The man is being hit from both sides by bricks, eggs, and other refuse. Runtz's signature cat is in the foreground writing on a piece of paper. The cartoon caption reads, "A secret policeman's lot is not a happy one."

In the left foreground, a very small soldier labeled "Anti-poverty" stands with arms raised holding a rifle and shouts, "Out of ammo!" Next to the soldier are an empty ammunition box labeled "Federal funds" and Runtz's signature cat. Behind the small soldier are multi-story buildings, and a person leans from a window calling, "Help." To the right of the small soldier stands a giant soldier (seen only from the waist down) labeled, "Viet conflict." Spent bullets fall from the giant soldier's unseen weapon. The curtain above Black's head is labeled,"Famous Entertainers Series." A man labeled "John Q. Voter" stands at the edge of the proscenium at stage right and holds a shepherd's crook toward her, in order to pull her off the stage. Runtz's signature cat watches from behind the proscenium at stage left.

From the AAEC Editorial Cartoon Collection; Cartoon by Vic Runtz. Charles de Gaulle shoots two pistols at the figure of a human body with a globe for a head (which has an angry expression). The figure holds a piece of paper labeled "Cyprus." Bullets hit the ground at the figure's feet, creating small dust clouds labeled, "Canada's tranquility, U.S. dollar stability, Rebuke to Israel, Vietnam, Britain's economy and ECM [European Common Market] entry, and Etc." Among the dust clouds, Runtz's signature cat covers its ears with its paws. The cartoon caption reads, "I do not need your love...but I must have your attention!"

A small sign reads, "Thin ice." Runtz's signature cat, watching the man over its shoulder, skates unknowing toward a hole in the ice.

From the AAEC Editorial Cartoon Collection; Cartoon by Vic Runtz. In an office, a man holding a Christmas card list in his lap sits across the desk from the Postmaster General. The Postmaster General says, "A choice for you this Christmas" and holds two books of stamps labeled "Nativity scene stamps" and "Toy stamps." The man responds,"That's nice, but...." On the wall behind the desk is the Postal Service's eagle logo labeled, "Go!" Runtz's signature cat holds a poster that reads, "Wanted: Zip." The cartoon caption reads, "How about just cheaper stamps?"

From the AAEC Editorial Cartoon Collection; Cartoon by Vic Runtz. Mimicking Atlas, a man stands on a stone pedestal and balances a massive globe on his shoulders. A woman with a scarf labeled "Women's liberation" has put her foot on the base of the pedestal and pushes up her sleeve, offering to take the globe off of the man's shoulders and bear the burden. The woman says to the man,"Move over, up there!" Runtz's signature cat offers flowers to the woman with a ribbon that reads "Happy 50th." The cartoon caption reads, "You're kidding?"

From the AAEC Editorial Cartoon Collection; Cartoon by Vic Runtz. Two battleships on the sea face off. One is a massive ship labeled "Southern bloc" and has a huge smoking gun. The other is significantly smaller and labeled "BIW DX contract." The gun on the small ship is labeled "New England delegation." The small ship has sustained damage. Three men on the first ship say "What's this? Didn't we just blast 'em out of the water?" A group of people on the small ship sing, "Just pass the ammunition." Runtz's signature cat on the small ship says,"The unsinkables!"

Two fish (one with spectacles) watch as a box labeled "Hi-test nerve gas--Caution" sinks from where it has been dropped into the water from a boat. The fish with spectacles shows fear, and the other asks, "Something making you nervous?" Runtz's signature cat, wearing a diving suit, swims nearby holding a newspaper with the headline, "Arrives at water edge."

On the ground beside the elephant is a sign that reads "None but Nixon." In the background, a donkey labeled "McCarthy-Kennedy-Johnson contest" hops or bucks, snorts, and says, "Whee." The center cross has "For God so loved..." on it. The crosses and the crest of the hill are surrounded by growing clouds of smoke. The inner clouds are labeled, "Distrust, Fear, Hatred, Violence." The outer clouds are labeled, "Threat of extinction, Warfare, Sickness, Suffering, Supremacy of science, Individual powerlessness, Dwindling respect for law, Selfishness, Moral laxity, Rioting, Racial tension, Ignorance, want." The eyes of Runtz's signature cat are closed as if in prayer. The cartoon caption reads, "Lead, kindly light."

President Richard Nixon walks toward the left of the cartoon dressed as a Hussar, wearing a chest ribbon labeled "Presidensy" [sic] and holding a sword upright. Behind Nixon, a group of men with a flag labeled "Senate" march in formation in the opposite direction. The Washington monument is in the background. Runtz's cat follows the senators but looks over at Nixon. The cartoon caption reads, "Where is everybody?"
