From the Map Collection. Descriptive note below the map: "Map of Mississippi as it appeared in 1822, five years after its admission as a state. Hinds County as shown was ceded by the Choctaw Indians in 1820. Covington County was formed in 1819, Perry in 1820, Monroe and Hinds in 1821, and the others shown existed at the time of admission in 1817, with some differences in boundaries. Compliments of Tom L. Ketchings Company, Natchez, Mississippi." Map shows counties and territories of Indian nations (Chicasaw and Choctaw).

Astronauts on tethers are outside their ships; those near the "Sox" ship are laughing and clapping. Astronauts outside the "Birds" ship look angry. Inside each ship is an astronaut with binoculars looking toward the earth. An astronaut from the "Birds" craft has a large pair of scissors and is about to sever the air hose of an astronaut from the "Sox" craft.

The coin is labeled "U.S. $ [dollar]." The stage is pursued by a gang of bandits labeled "European gold speculators" who are riding on horses and shooting handguns at Uncle Sam. At the back of the gang is a bandit labeled "de Gaulle." In the background, another bandit labeled "Devaulation" holds up a man with a coin head who is labeled "British sterling." The cartoon caption reads, "The chase."

The cartoon shows a storefront building with a large glass show window topped by an awning that reads, "Times-Picayune Doll and Toy Fund." The glass window has the letters, "Since 1896" in the upper right. In the display area behind the glass are two signs. One has a Santa Claus and reads, "Your help wanted...Many Santa's helpers needed...Send contributions to: The Times-Picayune Doll and Toy Fund, c/o Times-Picayune, 615 North St., New Orleans, La 70140." The second sign reads, "One single fund-purchasing gifts for all needy N.O. children."

A sign pointing to the road ahead reads, "Raise taxes," but it is blocked by a pile of rocks labeled, "Admin.'s surtax." The only way to continue driving is to make a sharp turn off the main road onto a very short piece of road that ends with a fall off the cliff and a sign that reads, "Still deeper deficit." The man in the car is looking down the cliff with alarm. The cartoon caption reads, "Main and alternate routes."
