Across the skull's forehead is a car, its wheels in place of the eye sockets. Words on the car are "Traffic deaths accounted for nearly 50 percent--1,300!" The skeleton appears to be leering down at a man in uniform (police, highway patrol) who is hammering a sign onto a pole. The sign reads, "New speed law enforcement orders." The cartoon caption reads, "Get the picture?"

Two bones labeled "Viet war costs" and "Domestic costs" are on a plate on the table. Another place is set at the table, but the plate has no food. In the background, Richard Nixon, labeled "Administration," stands at the open door to a kitchen, where smoking cookpots can be seen on the stove. Nixon points an index finger to a woman who looks weary and overworked. She wears an apron labeled "Taxpayer" and carries a giant spoon used for stirring large cookpots. The cartoon caption reads, "Guess who's staying for dinner?!"

A smaller man has entered the office through a doorway. He carries a paper that reads "Nixon's postal reforms...Merit system for postmaster job." The second man says to the first, "You're old hat."

From the AAEC Editorial Cartoon Collection. Cartoon by Karl Hubenthal. A cartoonist shows a huge, wide cartoon to his managing editor. One end of the cartoon shows Richard Nixon's face; at the other end is Charles de Gaulle's face. Each drawing has an extremely long nose, and the noses meet in the middle. The caroonist says, "Just visualize it, boss. We'll run the cartoon 16 columns across a double page, maybe even jump it on around in back. And instead of 'Eyeball to eyeball,' we caption it 'Nostril to nostril confrontation'!" The editor thinks, "Give me strength." The cartoon caption reads, "It's a cartoonist's dream."
