From the AAEC Editorial Cartoon Collection; Cartoon by Eddie Germano. Against the backdrop of the Milky Way, two astronauts whose helmets are labeled "U.S." and "Russia," are standing on the Earth. Each is balancing on one foot and trying to step onto the moon with his other foot. The U.S. astronaut is holding a piece of paper labeled "Space treaty" in one hand and an ink pen in the other hand, and he is looking at the Russian astronaut. The Russian astronaut is looking only at the moon. The cartoon caption reads, "Let's also take a step toward peaceful purposes."

From the Ellin (Joseph and Nancy) Freedom Summer Collection; Bulletin released by the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party (MFDP) regarding the June 7, 1966, primary elections. Discusses the increased violence against African Americans in Mississippi and the activities of the Ku Klux Klan. The MFDP has called for an increase in the federal presence in the state to protect African Americans who are attempting to register and vote. Also mentions the party's efforts to have the up-coming election postponed until more African Americans in Mississippi have registered to vote.

Civil Rights Collection; In an article for The Southern Patriot, Anne Braden notes the confusion of the community and the media over the meaning of the phrase "black power." She clarifies the meaning and usage of the phrase "black power" and discusses the new directions in which the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) is now headed. She mentions leadership changes in SNCC and gives some background information on the organization's new chairman, Stokely Carmichael.
