Oral history.; Transcript of interview conducted January 9, 2001 in Westside, Mississippi. Irene Cadney Marshall was born April 20, 1919, in Westside, Mississippi to Matt Cadney and Joana Ross. Marshall attended school at Bethel School, where she was taught by Lloyd Weddington. Over the course of her career, Marshall was employed at the Alcorn Laundry and at the nursery school at Alcorn. For her work over the years, she received several service awards from Alcorn State University. Marshall was also actively involved with church activities at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir, Sunday school teacher and was selected as Mother of the Church.
