Description: Oral history.; Douglas Tuchman was born in New York City in 1940. He was a student at Hunter College 1957-1960 when he joined the civil rights movement. He was involved in campus activism, and later became a teacher. The teacher's union asked for volunteers to go to Mississippi in 1964 and Tuchman took part teaching in the Freedom School housed in the Mount Zion Church in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
