Description: From the AAEC Editorial Cartoon Collection. Cartoon by Ed Valtman. Lyndon Johnson and Nguyen Van Thieu are each on a tree branch which almost, but do not quite, meet in the middle of the cartoon. Johnson has climbed far out on his branch, and is reaching across the gap, extending his hand. Nguyen Van Thieu, with a hammer and sickle on his lapel, is sitting far back on his branch, and is making little effort to meet Johnson half way. The cartoon is reminiscent of Michelangelo's ca. 1511 Sistine Chapel ceiling fresco, "The Creation of Adam." The cartoon caption reads, "Out on the limb."
