Description: Oral history.; Transcript of interview with Lee Willie Miller conducted on July 29, 1999. Lee Willie Miller was born in 1917 in Stampley, Mississippi on a 220-acre plantation owned by her father. After her father died, she moved to Jackson in 1930 and then to Vicksburg in 1940 where she married and settled. She worked at the YMCA in catering and joined the NAACP in 1950. Miller traveled around the country to attend NAACP National Conventions in Detroit, Cleveland, and Chicago and was active at home in Mississippi working for African American civil rights.
