Oral history.; Transcript of interview conducted September 20, 2003 in Holly Springs, Mississippi at Rust College. Tonei Sackey was born in 1926 in South Dakota. A writer for the Twin Cities Courier, she became aware of racial discrimination and got involved with the civil rights movement while living in St. Paul, Minnesota. She made several trips to Mississippi and also marched from Selma to Montgomery in 1965. She discusses her early childhood experiences, marriage, children, education and career. She also describes incidents during the 1960s of Ku Klux Klan violence and intimidation; discusses close friendship with Walter and Earlene Reaves, fellow activists in Mississippi.
