Oral history.; Transcript of interview with Hattye Gatson conducted on January 16, 2000. Hattye Gatson was born in 1942 in Pickens, Mississippi and later moved to Durant. She joined the movement there for African American civil rights and began challenging segregated institutions, and working to canvass the community for voter registration. She participated in mass meetings at Second Pilgrim Rest Church, as well as boycotts of local businesses that were segregated.
