Oral history.; Amos Croutch was born in 1925, in Gulfport, Mississippi. After graduating from Thirty-third Avenue High School in 1943, Mr. Croutch was drafted into the United States Navy where he trained to be an aviation metalsmith. He attended Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana, from which he graduated cum laude with a B.A. in economics and business administration. From 1956 to 1967, he worked at Keesler Air Force Base in the Civil Service. From 1967 to 1971, he was project director and coordinator for the Neighborhood Youth Corps, a work-training program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor. From 1971 to 1984 he worked for the Small Business Administration. When Mr. Croutch retired from the Civil Service in 1984, he had achieved the rank of a GS-12.
