From the AAEC Editorial Cartoon Collection. Cartoon by Vic Runtz. President Richard Nixon stands in a corridor just outside the partially open door of a room. He holds a doctor's bag with monogrammed RMN (Richard Milhous Nixon) in his left hand. In his right hand he holds an ice pack labeled "Anti-inflation measures." He says to a man in the corridor,"The patient is a bit feverish, we'll keep applying ice packs." Artist Runtz's signature cat is seen about to enter the sick room carrying a flower. The cartoon caption reads: "State of the union."

21 January 1970

From the AAEC Editorial Cartoon Collection; Cartoon by Vic Runtz. Armed soldiers guard the entrance to the site of the 1968 Democratic Convention, which is surrounded by chain link fence topped by barbed wire. The gate in the fence is labeled, "Checkpoint Charlie." The soldiers are inspecting the contents of a cake box labeled "Mothers Bakery, Inc." The delivery man, looking angry, holds the open box while the soldiers inspect the bottom of the cake with it speared on a bayonet. The cake is labeled, "Happy 60th birthday LBJ." Runtz's signature cat holds its paws in the air in a gesture of surrender. The cartoon caption reads, "Ok, Mac, you can pass."

From the AAEC Editorial Cartoon Collection. Cartoon by John Stampone. Four protesters march from right to left in the cartoon, and each carries a picket sign. A woman wearing glasses carries a sign that reads, "Militant teachers." A young male hippie with beads and long hair carries a sign that reads, "Militant students." A matronly looking woman carries a sign that reads, "Militant parents." The fourth sign is carried by a small boy, and it reads, "Militant kids." The cartoon caption is not shown.

2 October 1968

From the AAEC Editorial Cartoon Collection. Cartoon by Wayne Stayskal. Richard and Pat Nixon are shown leaving through the gates of the White House in the back seat of a chauffered vehicle. A bumper sticker on the car reads, "Impeach Dean." One flag on the car is the American flag, the other shows an audio tape reel.

1973

From the AAEC Editorial Cartoon Collection; Cartoon by Vic Runtz. An elderly couple approach a pilot and flight attendant who are standing in front of a passenger jet, waiting to receive travelers. The elderly woman has unknowingly kicked aside a newspaper with the headline, "Hi-jacking up." The woman asks, "Think we might get a side trip to Cuba or some place?" The pilot and flight attendant look dismayed. Runtz's signature cat at the bottom right corner of the cartoon jumps to avoid being hit by the newspaper, and drops its bindle (bundle tied to a stick).
