Oral history.; Interview conducted with Edward Blackmon, Jr. in Canton, Mississippi on June 26, 2009. Edward Blackmon, Jr. was born and grew up in Canton, Mississippi in 1947. He graduated from Rogers Senior High School and went on first to the Tuskegee Institute and finally to Tougaloo College, where he received a degree in political science. He earned his law degree from George Washington University in Washington, DC in 1973. He was affiliated with the NAACP, the Magnolia American Bar Associations, and the Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association. Blackmon was first elected to the state legislature in 1979, and again in 1984.
