He also mentions the case of Clyde Kennard, an African-American man who attempted to register at the University of Southern Mississippi in the late 1950s.

Copy of a typewritten letter, dated October 21, 1962, from P. D. (Percy Dale) East to several friends, in which East explains the difficult situation in which he finds himself in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Some members of the community have accused him of being responsible for the arrest of Circuit Clerk Theron Lynd, resulting in personal, financial, and legal problems for East. He also mentions Clyde Kennard, an African-American man who attempted to enroll at the University of Southern Mississippi in the late 1950s.

Transcribed copy of a typewritten letter from P. D. East to Theron Lynd, dated November 26, 1962. East makes reference to an incident in which Lynd publicly accused him of being a communist and demands that Lynd either prove his accusation or go before the Men's Club of the Oak Grove Methodist Church in Lamar County, Mississippi, and apologize for the statement.

East discusses his newspaper, The Petal paper, public and commercial responses he received related to positions he took that were considered controversial by some in the Hattiesburg, Mississippi, area. He also discusses harassment he experienced, threats, and slander to which he was subjected as a result of his social and political views. Other topics include race relations, politics, liberty, and the distinction of freedom.
